 The department (with pass classes only) started functioning in the year 1960. Honours was introduced in 1978-79 and courses under choice based credit system were introduced from the academic session 2015-16. Post Graduate in the subject was opened in 2017 with 32 seats. Since 2017, the department has acquired the ststus of P.G. Department of History.  Now the department grooms 64 students in Post Graduate class, 96 students in Honours and more than 100 students in Elective/ Generic elective and nurses the ambition of turning itself into a potential center of excellence.  Five (05) experienced faculties shed their academic lustre on the department and cater to the needs of students.
